Joomla! Migration

  • What is a site migration?

    We will take your Joomla 1.5 or later site, package it up, and move it to our cloud servers. When we put your site on our servers, we make sure everything is perfect. We turn on all SEO features and install Google Applications.
  • What happens during a site migration?

    We take your files and database from your server and move them over to ours. We do not delete any data; we simply make a copy. When we have everything live on our server, we change all the settings to bring your Joomla-powered Web site up on our servers.
  • Is there any down time?

    You will not have downtime if you are moving your Joomla site from one server to another. It will, however, take time to route traffic from one server to another. This has to do with how DNS works.
  • How long does a site migration take?

    What takes time is preparing for the move. We normally handle the actual moving of your your data in less than 24 hours.
  • Can I work on my site while it's being moved?

    It is recommended that you wait to work on your site until the move is 100% complete.
  • Will you handle the DNS transfer when it's complete?

    Yes, if you send us your registrar URL, user, and pass, we will do the change for you.
  • What happens if something breaks after the process is complete?

    We will fix it at no cost to you.
  • Can we call you with problems with the migration?

    Yes, you can call our office during normal business hours and we will help you with the migrations.
  • How do I get started with the move?

    What you do for us:

    1. Register at this URL first: http://billing.cloudaccess.net/register.php
    2. Joomla Super Admin User and Pass
    3. Joomla Super Admin URL (normally YourDomain.com/Administrator)
    4. URL to Control Panel with MyPHPadmin
    5. FTP Access (make sure you test, host, user, pass)
    6. Your Web site URL
    7. Your First and Last Name
    8. Do you want Google Applications set up with your domain?
    9. (Optional) Send us your Registrar details and we can do the name server changes

    Note:  If you're getting Google Apps set up, we will send you back user, pass, and URL to set up your users.
    When the domain is switched to our service you can check your mail. It is important when we send you back
    your Google Apps account details that you set up all the email accounts right away.

    Send Migration Request to: migrate@cloudacess.net and we will schedule your move. When you send an
    email into this department you will get a ticket number back. Keep track of your ticket.


    What we do for you:

    * We will go get your site and import it into our servers.
    * We will send you a link to the imported site.
    * When you approve the site, we will change it to the live domain name.
    * If you said Yes to Google Apps, we will send you back user and pass to enter your users.   


    Ready to go live changing your DNS settings

    At this point our servers are ready to start taking your Web-page data. All you need to do is
    point your domain name at our servers. You will need to switch the registrar DNS to our servers.
    When you log in, please look carefully for a place to change your "Name Servers"

  • Can I migrate my own site?

    First you need to make sure you have a site launched in our cloud. Sign up online: It's easy and take less than 5 minutes. Please upload your archived Web site to httpdocs/tmp directory using FTP. Zip archives are supported as well as Tar archives with gzip and bzip2 compression. The Web site has to be Joomla! 1.5. Please also prepare a SQL dump (without compression).
  • Components We Cannot Migrate Free of Charge into Our Network

    A few select components require some additional work when moving them over from another hosting platform. If you have any of the following components, modules, or plugins for the Joomla! CMS that need to be moved, we require an additional service fee.
    • CiviCRM
    • Virtuemart
  • How do you switch my mail?

    We set everyone up on Google Applications. This mail service is Gmail at your own domain name. When you request the transfer, we will send you back a URL, username, and password to the Google Apps adminstration area. Go into this system and enter all your mailusers. To ensure you don't lose any mail, you will want to replicate the same usernames as your curent emails. When we perform the switch, your mail will route these new emails.
  • Will I lose any mail?

    No, you will not lose any mail. You will, however, want to downlad all your mail from your old service before we do the switch to Google applications. When we do the switch from your old server to ours, you will then lose access to your old mail. Make sure the evening before your scheduled switch that you have all your mail downloaded. After the switch, all mail will flow to Google applicatons.
  • I have my own mail server; can you point mail at me?

    Yes. If you have mail services already and want to keep them, please include your MX record setting.
