Adding a Favicon (Joomla 1.5)

A favicon is a very small icon (usually no more than 16X16 pixels) that appears on the header of your web browser. If you open facebook.com, for example, you will see little blue square with white "f" letter inside in corner of your opened tab window. This article explains how to add a favicon to your Joomla Instance. There are many websites out there that will help you to generate your favicon. Naturally, you'll want to create a favicon and upload it to your Media Manager before installing it in Joomla! After creating your favicon, log into the Administration area (the back end) of your Joomla Instance. Go to Components > File Manager.

Find "Templates" in the directory tree and select it to open the file.

In our example, we're going to add a favicon to the Cloudbase template, so we will find file and open it. Once you open the main directory for the template that you're currently using, you will see a list of files that appear. Locate the favicon.ico file. This can be replaced by the favicon image you created and uploaded into your Media Manager. Remember that, by default, all images that you've loaded into your Media Manager are located in root/images. Exchange the current image with your image by replacing it and naming it favicon.ico.
