Good question! Learn more in our blog post

Just like all businesses, search engines want happy customers and customers aren’t going to be happy if they are directed to websites that don’t have good grammar and spelling.

Let’s say that you’re looking to hire a new employee and you get a resume that’s beautifully written with perfect grammar and spelling and then you get another that’s full of errors .. Who do you think will get your attention?

Or say you are thinking about going out tonight. You check XYZ place’s site but find it full of grammatical errors. You also check another place’s website that was written with perfect grammar.

Which one do you think you will end up going to?
You get the idea!

Do spelling and grammar affect SEO?

“Yes, spelling and grammar are ranking factors.”
When it comes to creating and marketing content for your business, proper spelling and grammar are just as important as the topic. That’s because proper spelling and grammar are signs of quality writing and credibility.

Consumer’s Trust

One of the first things you notice about content that helps you decide if a website is credible is its spelling and grammar. A post that has been carefully written with little to no errors tells me that the writer/business behind it invested time and effort in their work, making me consider them as a reliable resource thus, I will continue reading.

This is why Google doesn’t need an exact algorithm for spelling and grammar to assess content quality, but consumers and other authority sites will do the work and tell them whether or not content is valuable and trustworthy.

Here is what Google has to say …
‘Write easy-to-read text’

Users enjoy content that is well written and easy to follow.

Avoid:

  • Writing sloppy text with many spelling and grammatical mistakes
  • Embedding text in images for textual content (users may want to copy and paste the text and search engines can’t read it)
